@Work 2014: Day 1 - A Happy Day and So Much More

abril 9, 2014, Emily He - @Work 2014: Day 1

Wow, Day 1 has started off with a bang. It may be rainy outside, but there’s really only one word to describe the climate inside-– Happy! The excitement at @Work 2014 is palpable and that energy came to life this morning as a group of happy team members danced (or mostly bounced) their way to the stage to the aptly named pop-anthem—fist pumping up a room of familiar customer faces for  @Work Summit 2014

After welcoming the room, Rick Anstett, VP of Sales and Marketing Operations, invited Amar Dhaliwal, Saba’s Chief Evangelist to the stage. Amar wasted no time articulating the key topic of this year’s event: Talent Management, and what it means for employees and organizations today, and 10-20 years into the future.

I have to admit, I was a little star struck throughout the morning session, sitting next to Jenn Lim, CEO & Chief Happiness Officer at Delivering Happiness. The Company she co-created with Tony Hsieh sole purpose is to inspire happiness at work, in communities and everyday life. Jenn shared her personal journey to discovering happiness in her own career and her past experiences established the practices and culture of happiness found at Zappos today. Her lasting lesson to the audience was that companies can facilitate happiness and cultivate a personal and emotional connection around the work they do by supporting these five pillars:

  1. Commitment – to the brand, finances and resources
  2. Defining core values and making sure behaviors and actions that are exhibited are real and authentic
  3. Commit to transparency, creating teams of individuals who are connected both inside and outside of work
  4. A shared vision so that everyone is aligned and working towards the same goals and objectives
  5. Building the right team – hire slow, fire quick

Closing out the morning session was CEO Shawn Farschi, who reinforced the Company’s focus around talent management. Since our last Saba Summit, we have been focusing on Saba transformation, business growth, product innovation, and most importantly, customer success. He announced that Saba has added close to 200 customers around the globe and across all market segments in the last 12 months.   In the meantime, the pace of innovation has accelerated, with more than 900 new features added to Saba Cloud in the past year. We’ll continue to innovate to develop the best intelligent talent management platform in the market.

The rest of the morning and afternoon was non-stop action with product demonstrations and customer-led breakout sessions focused on best practices in Learning and development, the future of Learning, and talent today and tomorrow.

For those of you not at @Work, you can still feel the happiness here by following the conversation on Twitter (#sabasummit).

This morning, we can’t wait for Josh Bersin to take the stage for his keynote: “Simply Irresistible: How to Engage the 21st Century Workforce,” followed by Hemanth Puttaswamy, our CTO and SVP of Product, who will provide a deeper look into Saba’s product strategy.
