In a survey Saba recently conducted to over 1800 HR managers and employees, we found the majority of employees are rarely asked for feedback. And only about half of employees believe there are effective platforms in their workplace for employees to share input to improve the company’s business performance.
Subsequently, this lack of feedback is creating a gap in perceptions of employee engagement and talent program effectiveness between HR leaders and employees. HR leaders think their programs are effective, accessible and impactful, while employees don’t agree.
If you think about feedback as the system lights on your car’s dashboard, telling you when it’s time to tune up your car, it’s the same for organizations. If your business doesn’t have the same warning lights – the same way to easily spot potential issues before they become problems – you’re at risk of the business equivalent of running out of gas or getting a flat tire at the worst possible time.
Engagement maintenance is key
Without real-time, continuous feedback, organizations think their “car” is running just fine, but in reality, it’s not. The lack of a real-time feedback channel and a clear line of sight between businesses and employees creates more than a few problems:
- It negatively impacts employee engagement and business performance
- It creates perception gaps and disconnects between employees, HR leaders, and the C-suite
- And opportunities for improvement in talent programs go un-noticed
The feedback and engagement gap is just going to widen with the millennial workforce
Millennials have become pretty famous for requiring instant and constant feedback, and they want to know that their input is heard and they’re connected to the business. There’s probably not a millennial on the planet that’s going to wait a year to give or receive feedback - it’s got to be real-time everything, or they’re out.
By creating an “always-on” employee feedback channel, HR leaders can improve employee engagement, and get a more accurate, real-time pulse on their employees. Then, armed with this insight, they can use that real-time feedback to spot problems faster, improve the effectiveness of talent programs, and, ultimately, demonstrate HR’s impact on employee and business performance.
Saba Pulse 360 helps organizations collect, understand, and act on feedback, in real-time. It is built right into our integrated talent management platform, and is designed to create continuous alignment between employees and the business, enable HR leaders to improve talent management effectiveness in real-time, and offers the instant, tangible insight business leaders need to prove business impact.
