There was much to celebrate in recent weeks, as some members of our Saba EMEA team donned their finery and enjoyed a fabulous gala dinner in London at the annual Learning Technologies Awards on November 27.
These awards give well-deserved acknowledgement to individuals, teams and organisations doing amazing things with their learning strategies and employee engagement initiatives. And our team attended for a very special purpose.
GfK wins the Gold Learning Technologies Team of the Year Award!
We at Saba could not have been more honoured to celebrate our client GfK, which we had nominated for the learning technologies team of the year award. Needless to say, we were delighted to not only nominate our client for all the amazing work its Learning and Development (L&D) team have been doing, but we were also so proud that their hard work was recognised: GfK won the Gold 2019 Learning Technologies Award for learning technologies team of the year!
The judges recognised GfK's L&D team for both its collective and individual contributions. Well done!
Together in partnership with Saba, GfK's small team of six L&D professionals delivered training to about 9,000 global employees, helping to achieve a major strategic change in the process. The team substantially increased employee engagement, participation and satisfaction in its learning programs.
GfK is a wonderful example of an L&D team that makes use of Saba Cloud capabilities in tandem with a clear learning strategy to support its organisation's people and its unique business needs. GfK's L&D team strategically leverage learning technology as a performance development tool in order to get staff up to speed on new products and training.
We all still have grins from ear-to-ear from the moment it was announced that GfK in partnership with Saba won Gold for the 2019 Learning Technologies Team of the Year Award.
Supporting employee performance through ongoing L&D conversations
Employee learning and development (and its performance outcomes) have now become a constant dialogue between line managers and employees, rather than the previous annual development conversation.
By encouraging their learners to test as well as give and receive feedback, GfK was able to step away from an 'out-of-the-box' solution and create a more personalised learning experience that really works for their employees. GfK demonstrates that creating a learning experience is, above all, a strategy, not a product.
The Learning Technologies Awards judges said they were impressed not only with what the team had achieved collectively but also the clear contribution of each team member. GfK, one of the largest market research companies in the world, sources and provides market and consumer information that enables its clients in 12 major industries to make smarter decisions.
GfK's Global Head of Learning Jason Flynn summed up their win:
'Our global L&D team is aligned to the strategy of the company, but we did not want to be about business as usual. We wanted to give people something they have never had before, something that excites them. I am immensely proud of what the team has achieved, and this award is recognition of all their hard work.'

Saba a headline sponsor at the 2019 Learning Technologies Awards
As headline sponsor of the event, we were thrilled to take this opportunity to support the celebration of outstanding learning technologies being deployed worldwide!
We were also eager to show our EMEA learning peers our refreshed company vision and unified new branding. For those who had missed seeing Saba in Paris at the Unleash 2019 conference, it was Saba like they'd never seen us before!
It was a privilege for Saba to be a headline sponsor of the 2019 Learning Technologies Awards.
Saba and GfK: A partnership to be proud of
In addition to being a night of fun and celebration, these awards truly highlight the work that we're doing with our clients as a true partnership. Even excellent HR and learning technology will do little in an organisation that hasn't yet developed a robust, modern learning experience strategy. Similarly, a brilliant learning strategy is going to struggle without the support of an innovative technology partner.
Congratulations to all of this year's Learning Technologies Awards nominees! The future of learning is bright, modern and increasingly personalised.
