The tenth annual Halogen Customer ConferenceOttawa, Canada with hundreds of HR professionals from different industries coming together to network and expand their knowledge of Halogen solutions and talent management best practices.
With this year’s conference theme Learn, Share, Connect these two themes were repeated throughout the day from the keynote to the breakout sessions.
In his welcome message, Halogen CEO Les Rechan introduced himself to customers then shared his insights on the critical requirements for building a high-performing workforce:
Creating a learning culture where employees are given the opportunity to stretch and grow was a key theme to Les’ welcome, as was the principle that everyone deserves to work for a great leader.
Steve Farber keynote: Improving your organization and your life with LEAP
Les’ talk about leadership aligned well to what Steve Farber – President of Extreme Leadership, Inc., the founder of The Extreme Leadership Institute, and a best-selling author – shared in his opening keynote.
Steve gave an insightful lesson on how to use the LEAP framework – Love, Energy, Audacity and Proof to radically improve your life and your organization:
Steve talked about the importance of using your passion to inspire yourself and others to change the world around you and keep yourself and others engaged in the work at hand. Every emotion from fear to determination can be used to your advantage to achieve the extraordinary at work.
Kate Adametz-Jenkins, Talent Management Consultant III for UW Credit Union shares her biggest take away from Steve’s keynote:
“I’m happy to hear concepts like love and energy being introduced to the corporate world. We’re all human with emotions and passions that make up who we are, and to finally recognize and acknowledge those concepts is a game changer for how we go about our work.”
Talent strategy sessions
A conference favorite, day one’s talent strategy track, featured insight on strategic HR practices from knowledge experts, including:

Here’s a tweet from one of our customers about the value of the lab:
A Zoo-tiful relationship
The day closed with Tim Mulligan, CHRO for the San Diego Zoo sharing his organizations’ ten-year relationship with Halogen:
Tim talked about how his organization’s use of Halogen has evolved over the years and how the Zoo is building a great learning culture, creating development opportunities for employees.
There was so much more to the day – and I think this tweet sums it up nicely:
