Halogen Software recognizes excellence in talent management at 2012 Vision Awards

HR practitioners play a pivotal role in establishing their organizations' talent as a lasting competitive advantage. I'm not just saying that because I'm an HR practitioner myself.

Today's business climate is changing. Human capital, in all industries, is becoming an organization's most strategic asset. And all trends indicate that human capital will become even more valuable in the future.

At Halogen Software our vision is to help organizations build their world class workforce; get better results through a high performing, aligned and engaged workforce; and establish talent as a lasting competitive advantage.

It is with this vision in mind that we were honored to not only attend but also sponsor and present an award at last night's 2012 Vision Awards. Hundreds of people attended the awards gala to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Human Resources professionals in this region.

And for the first time, Halogen presented the Excellence in Talent Management Award which recognizes a team that has executed an organization-wide talent management initiative that has achieved tangible and significant business results.

We were excited to create this new award category for the Vision Awards and are so pleased to congratulate Katherine Parker & the ETMS Team at the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada as its first recipient. This team created an executive talent management system which has improved their talent management processes significantly for over 5000 executives .

Of course Katherine and the ETMS Team were in good company. Other finalists for the Excellence in Talent Management Award included:

  • Heidi Hauver & the Talent Team, Pythian
  • Diane Mikaelsson & the Talent Management and Employee Development Working Group, Citizenship and Immigration Canada
  • Suzan Molinski & the Executive Recruitment and Talent Management Team, Fisheries and Oceans Canada

The above organizations understand why talent management matters. They have demonstrated leadership and innovation in using talent management to strengthen their organization's competitive position, and drive business results. And that's something to celebrate.

Neil Pasricha, creator of 1000awesomethings.com and author of The Book of Awesome, keynoted the Vision Award gala last evening. What Neil shared with attendees is the need to celebrate the little things. We live a hectic life and it's easy to forget the little joys that make life so sweet.

Taking the time to recognize our accomplishments, those large and small, is something we should all make time for. I hope every person and HR team nominated for an award last night recognizes the role they play in making Ottawa a remarkable community in which to live and work.

Congratulations to all the 2012 Vision Awards winners and finalists!
