It's likely you are having conversations at your organizations about how to improve your performance management practices. Articles in Harvard Business Review and elsewhere have put this issue squarely on the radar of not only HR leaders, but also executives.
We've known for a while that the traditional performance review process is broken. A CEB study from 2016 found that 95% of managers are dissatisfied with the way their companies conduct performance reviews. What's worse is that 90% of HR leaders in this same study say the process doesn't even yield accurate information.
We need to fix performance management now
My new book, Unlocking High Performance, is a guide to help you do just that. And, I'm partnering with Saba to create a master class based on my book to help you get started.
A critical first step is understanding that work is a relationship, not a contract. Creating a more human-friendly workplace where employees can truly engage and unlock their performance potential requires redesigning the work experience to feel like a healthy relationship for all employees.
Before we roll up our sleeves and get to work, I want to address the elephant in the room:
How did we end up with such a bad process as 'the standard' for performance management?
A history of performance management
