Saba Extends Industry-Leading Content Integration Framework to Improve Enterprise Learning Effectiveness

Innovative Framework Delivers Support for OLSA Asset Integration, SCORM 2004 3rd Edition, and Other Plug-and-Play Capabilities Across the Content Delivery Lifecycle

HR Technology Conference & Exposition
Booth #729

Chicago—October 15, 2008—Saba (NASDAQ: SABA), the premier people management software and services provider, today announced significant enhancements to the Saba Learning Suite’s industry-leading Content Integration Framework. This innovative framework extends learning and development options with its plug-and-play capabilities for third-party content-authoring tools, as well as support for content management and delivery systems, and third-party hosted content with support for SkillSoft’s (NASDAQ: SKIL) Open Learning Services Architecture (OLSA) Asset Integration. The Saba Content Integration Framework gives organizations the ability to leverage the best mix of internally developed and third-party content for their business needs, while simultaneously reducing content development and integration time.

“Global enterprises have an increasing quantity and variety of content,” said A.G. Lambert, vice president of marketing for Saba. “Our extended Content Integration Framework delivers open standards and choice, which enables our customers to manage content more effectively and focus more on growing the value of their people.”

The accelerated growth of content and content standards makes it more challenging for organizations to manage and deploy content through their Learning Management Systems (LMS) without customization. Saba’s Content Integration Framework helps solve this problem by offering plug-and-play capabilities that make it simple to integrate third-party content, content tools, and content players with the Saba Learning Suite. The extended Content Integration Framework in the latest version of the Saba Learning Suite 5.4 SP3 includes:

New Automated Content Synchronization module — enables seamless communication about content between the learning catalog and a third-party content provider. This module leverages the asset integration service in OLSA 1.2. OLSA is a broad set of documentation developed by SkillSoft that specifies a range of Web Services for integrating learning assets and capabilities with other systems. With this integration customers can incorporate content from SkillSoft and other OLSA-compliant content vendors into their learning catalog without a manual import, seamlessly incorporate updates to new content without a catalog administrator and remove any expired titles from the catalog. A set of management and logging capabilities supports multiple content vendors in a single system.
Enhanced third-party content authoring tool connectivity — makes it easy for authors to use content-authoring tools of their choice while simultaneously taking advantage of the robust capabilities within Saba Content Management, including version control, a shared resource library, and more.
New support for integration with third-party content players — enables integration with third-party content vendors for online and offline delivery of any kind of SCORM-compliant content.
Future-proof design — the Content Integration Framework uses open Web Services standards in a loosely coupled framework to give organizations easier manageability and future-proof solutions.
Proven framework — More than 200 content partners from more than 30 countries have tested and verified standards-based interoperability on Saba Learning. New design intelligence makes content interoperability easier and more flexible.

In addition, Saba Learning Suite 5.4 SP3 includes robust support for content interoperability standards, including AICC and SCORM 2004 3rd Edition to ensure interoperability, accessibility, and reusability of Web-based learning content.

“OLSA was created out of a need for our customers to simplify and minimize the efforts required to integrate our high-quality learning resources into learning management systems,” said John Ambrose, senior vice president of strategy, Corporate Development & Emerging Business at SkillSoft. “With Saba’s support for OLSA Asset Integration, our joint customers can automate processes and get more value from their investments in Saba and SkillSoft.”
