Trinity Health Uses Saba Centra to Reduce Costs and Increase Quality of Healthcare

Network of 44 hospitals and more than 375 other healthcare facilities in eight states relies on Saba Centra for real-time learning and collaboration

Redwood Shores, Calif.––April 18, 2007––Saba (NASDAQ: SABA), the premier Human Capital Management (HCM) software and services provider, has announced that Trinity Health has deployed Saba Centra Live for a variety of learning and collaboration needs that will, in turn, reduce costs while maintaining the highest quality of patient care. As part of an effort to improve processes, Trinity Health uses Saba Centra Live to facilitate communication among disparate purchasing system managers to create a more consolidated, enterprise-wide supply-chain solution for its network of 44 owned or managed hospitals and more than 375 other healthcare facilities in eight states — from California to Maryland.

“Our supply-chain users across the U.S. are receiving all their updates and learning through Saba Centra Live,” said Debra Rockey, director of IS learning and development for Trinity Health. “The Saba solution has proven it can provide a good return on our investment in a very short time.”

"Healthcare institutions must master a constant influx of new knowledge and information, requiring the deployment of cost-effective, robust solutions to drive collaboration, communication, learning, and management,” said Bobby Yazdani, CEO and chairman of Saba. “To address the evolving needs of the healthcare industry, Saba continues to commit resources to the ongoing development of Saba Centra Live, providing a highly accessible real-time learning platform that helps accelerate critical business initiatives and lowers operational costs.”

Trinity Health relies on the powerful and flexible Saba Centra Knowledge Center database to store, manage and provide access to learning content and reference materials used by staff members. In addition to supplying comprehensive information, the solution’s multimedia capabilities allow for robust communication among team members.
“Saba Centra Live’s audio and video conferencing features let managers and other participants easily interact with one another as if they were in the same room,” Rockey remarked. “Yes/no polling, instant surveys, public or private chat and even group laughter and applause further enrich the experience. We developed our entire e-learning strategy for the supply-chain solution around Saba.”

Highly Creative Applications
Trinity Health’s vision to deliver personalized, high-quality healthcare to its patients is bolstered by Saba Centra Live’s capability to function as an e-learning and broadcast communications tool.

With the success of the supply-chain initiative, Trinity Health has developed several exciting and highly creative applications using Saba Centra Live. These innovative applications, although quite revolutionary in the healthcare industry, have become significant to Trinity’s regular communication efforts.
Rockey’s department holds weekly 30-minute “radio” broadcasts, called Webinars, Knowledge and Information Technology (WKIT), to provide a variety of information for intended audiences. Topics can range from technical to general areas such as business etiquette, and are delivered in a number of ways — from presentations by subject-matter experts to interviews.

“Our chief information officer uses the Saba solution to hold monthly ‘town hall’ meetings with all the people in his area,” noted Rockey. “He really likes it because he can get his message directly to everyone. We’re also excited about the future capability of Saba Centra Live to handle podcasts. Our workforce is relatively young and technologically savvy — so podcasting, when it becomes available, will be a great communication tool.”
Throughout the development and rollout of the Saba Centra Live solution, Saba has had Centra experts on-site to work closely with Trinity Health’s Multi-Media Technology Team (M2T2) to ensure success.
